O, Little Town of…Lexington?

Lexington, South Carolina – December 7, 2009 – Local retired couple to present miniature Christmas village at Agapé Senior of Lexington.

Each December, Roger and Patti Owens undertake a labor of love. Roger and Patti welcome in the Christmas season by constructing their own miniature Christmas village. The practice began over 20 years ago, with a few lighted buildings surrounding a tiny church under their Christmas tree. As the years have come and gone, additional buildings and accessories have been added. This year, their Christmas village is comprised of over 200 buildings, a railroad, scores of one-inch-tall residents, and a host of Santas and Snowmen.

This Christmas season, Roger and Patti will be displaying their cheery Christmas village at Agapé Senior of Lexington. The village will be on display in the facility’s dining room for residents and visitors to admire and enjoy. The construction of the village usually requires a full two weeks of painstaking and meticulous work. The Christmas village will open on December 11^th and will be viewable until the first week in January.

The original church from the first village has, over time, been joined by a host of other buildings: including a train station, a movie theater, a bank, a veterinary clinic, and even a tiny Cracker Barrel restaurant (Patti’s favorite eating establishment).

As Roger and Patti have traveled, they have continually come across a variety of new additions for their village. An assortment of items has been purchased from a myriad of stores and sales. Other items have been generously donated. A Big Lots store donated 10 small houses a couple of years ago. Of particular interest is a holiday-themed Ferris wheel, purchased from the estate of Jay Silverheels, the actor who portrayed Tonto in the “Lone Ranger” television show for many years.

The effect of the entire display is whimsical, nostalgic, and mesmerizing: especially when the ceiling lights are turned off and the lights of the village are given a chance to “show off.”

Roger and Patti Owens and the staff at Agapé Senior of Lexington invite visitors to come and experience the wonders of the Christmas village. Viewing hours will be from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. daily, from December 10^th through New Year’s.
